What Happens When things Tank?
Tank? Going Down? Collapse? Sunk? Ruined? Go Under? Bankrupted?
Any way that that it can be put, it still sounds bad and it is.
So are you prepared to take a hit, freeze, be financially ruined, live without electricity, starved, beaten, bankrupt or to end up with nothing?
Things do not always go the way that they should. Things happen.. Sometimes people can be driving down the road and suddenly run off the side of a mountain, changing their lives entirely in a matter of seconds. Especially in snow country, a simple emergency kit consisting of some water, food, candles and matches can save lives.
What about in life, where nature can be brutal and unexpected. The volcanoes, the solar storms, the hurricanes, the tsunamis, the storms, the earthquakes and other events that nature brings our way can test our survival skills. Are you ready for those events?
Most of these natural occurrences can bring about electricity loss, loss of transportation, loss of life, medical problems and disruptions to water and food sources. Nature is not always predictable and the timing of these events can not be put on the calendar. One of the ways to be able to survive these events is to be prepared for the expected and unexpected with the emergency kits or bug out bags.
EMERGENCY SURVIVAL KIT CONSISTS OF WHAT?
The survival or emergency kit should have life saving articles, water and food. The survival kits are sometimes called get-out-of-dodge bags, bug-out-bag, BOB's or eotwawki kits. Depending on the situations, terrains, temperatures, people involved and where the event might take place is dependent on the contents of the emergency kit.
THE CAR KIT
The car emergency kit should contain:
Water, food, high energy food bars, emergency blanket, candles, matches, extra clothes, jacket. extra glasses or contacts-flashlight, a first aid kit, a all around tool, pliers, screwdrivers, duct tape, sheet of plastic, a tire patch or plug kit and an air pump..
Depending on the weather conditions more or less could be stored in the kit, but many other articles could be added. In very hot regions, more water must be added and in very cold regions, down blankets could be added to the lists.
The Other Survival Kits
The boat survival kit should include the basics like that of the automobile, but should include a list of other things also. Life preservers should be part of the articles, along with fishing line, hooks, flare gun, air horn, weather radio with extra batteries.
The plane survival kit should include the basic car kit plus an extra compass, pencils, paper, weather radio and extra batteries and extra maps.
The campers and hikers are sometimes limited by the weight that they carry but they must have the basic water, food, clothes, sleeping bags and good boots, they should also make the decisions to include items as extra matches, fire starting materials, extra fuel, extra food, a good water filter, weather radio and extra batteries, a water proof poncho, space blanket, knife, bear spray (in bear country), extra foot wear, extra clothes, and shelter.

What to Expect in Emergency Situations
In Emergency Situations, most people will not know what to expect until that happens. In some regions, it could be a poisonous snake or spider bite, in other areas, it might be a blown tire in the middle of the desert. There are hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanoes, pandemics, wrecks, power outages and much more that can result in emergency situations in a matter of seconds.
With the down grading of countries around the world with their credit ratings, the economy of any one country could be in default, sending our economy in a tail-spin, resulting in devaluation of our currency. For all the money that people have in the bank could be worthless in a matter of hours. This could result in a panic and a run on banks, causing distrust in the banking and monetary system. In a situation like this, the confidence of the people would soon be in a negative, causing all the money to lose its monetary value completely.
These bug out bags would contain enough survival items to get a person through the rough time to recover and to survive for a short time. The other items would help to survive longer. Having some barter materials could help get the needed items that would be needed later.
What Item that was Left off of the Lists?
ONE OF THE MOST REQUESTED ITEMS AFTER WATER, FOOD AND CLOTHES WAS LEFT OFF.
The requested item isTOILET PAPER
This may not sound like a great deal when you have it, but for those people who have used pine cones, poison oak leaves, dried leaves, pine bark, telephone pages and so much more, really knows what they missed. Yep, Toilet Paper. For that person who had toilet paper in the diasters, he was highly sought, envied and praised.

I think this is very informative. To be honest, most of my thoughts of emergency take me to thinking about finance-emergency funds. This opened my mind to the fact that emergencies can be much bigger than losing a job or family member.
I also want a share an emergency that changed my perspective. I was living in Cairo at the time that their revolution began. Suddenly, internet and all phone lines were down. Stores closed. ATMs were shut down. Rumors that the jails had been opened and that raping and looting was taking place in many areas had everyone on pins and needles. For the first time I realized: the right to bare arms is a damn good thing. Up until then I have fely completely opposite.

Thanks for the tips — I definitely would prefer toilet paper to pine cones or poison oak leaves!
Good survivalist list — obviously the result of lots of thinking and research — certainly deserves an Up vote.
Lots of Apocalyptic visioning these days (I'm also thinking of books like 'The Hunger Games'). I tend to think it's because the global "free market" system has gone splat, misery is spreading, and plenty of people have lost hope in the future, even the survival of civilization. Whew...
I'm a bit more worried about a pandemic (especially after seeing 'Contagion'), but here is Texas, the biggest problem seems to be the effects of Global Warming, which basically set the state on fire last summer (also the hottest summer on record). The extended drought is expected to bring a crisis in both water and electricity production (power plants need water). Over the next 50 years, Austin, Texas is looking at a 22% increase in population vs. a 10% drop in water supplies. We may be looking at a Mojave Desert spreading from California to East Texas...
I just wonder what it would be like if about 350 to 400 million people (US population) were all trying to survive off the land.
